In Cook or Cooked you're working at a small street food shop serving dishes to demanding customers. You're challenged to cook increasingly complex dishes by collecting ingredients with the correct key combos before the time runs out. However, the area you're in is pretty... natural. The shop has trouble with keeping things like mosquitos, birds, mice, and even dogs away from the food. Can you balance the job of cooking while simultaneously keeping the restaurant pest free?

Added fully working tutorial to the infinite mode, two new levels to main game mode, and loading screen!
(sorry for deleting and reuploading a lot. I was testing the loading screen)

I also did some testing and capped the speed in infinite mode. It still slowly gets faster but now I doesn't become impossible after a certain amount of time.
Also I started adding new levels to the main gamemode. They'll release next demo!!

Anyway here's what I added:

I added the checklist system and reworked the ingredient spawning for the infinite mode. Now only ingredients you need will spawn and there's no way of putting in too many of the same ingredient (only for infinite mode).
RANDOMNESS FEATURE FOR RANDOMNESS WEEK:
There's 4 powerups in versus mode. Random powerups spawn with these chances:
Mystery - 50% chance of spawning
-1 life for your opponent - 20% chance of spawning
+1 life for you - 20% chance of spawning
Steal one of your opponent's dishes - 10% chance of spawning

So I still didn't start the infinite mode because I made a long list of little things I could polish :D
In the past few hours, here's what I added/fixed:
Powerup now gives 1 full heart instead of half a heart
Players can't input things during the starting countdown
No more tutorial glitch if you press skip before fade out animation is done
Slow down powerup slows down slices as well
Damage flash actually works now (before it only played the first time you got damaged)
Main game now has a fade in animation
Ingredient spawn is weighted towards needed ingredients in versus mode
Fixed volume menu
Less pests spawn
pest SFX now immediately ends after pest attacks
Fixed the glitch where you could spam the start button at the beginning
Most of these were just simple changes except for the weighted versus ingredient thing and the slowed down slices feature.

I realized I posted the last demo with a big glitch. The main game is supposed to countdown 321 once at the very beginning but in the demo I just posted, it does so after completing each level T_T
I just fixed it luckily but noted to test the game till the end next time I post a demo.
I'm also starting on the infinite mode but there's nothing in it yet since I got side tracked from fixing that glitch!

I did some polishing because most of the main features are done :D
Multiple people said the music was too loud so I added a volume slider on the title screen!
Also there are now warnings for 60s, 30s, and 10s left on the versus game mode and a 5 second left countdown at the end :D

I also was trying to find a way to code a feature in the versus mode that makes the chopped ingredient glow a color corresponding which player chopped it. That'll be done next demo (hopefully) :D
There's now sauce powerups in the versus game mode!!
There's 4 powerups and they spawn every 8-12 seconds:

The hearts in the versus game mode should be completely working with a subtle animation.
Also there was a bit of an art revamp. Most notable is the pot sprite and the new and improved game over screen. :D
More progress yay!!!

I did another two of the challenges since they're pretty much the same thing :) The game gets gradually faster as the levels go on and since there's four levels there's more than three distinct falling speeds! Also the combos of the ingredients get gradually harder as well.

There's a new gamemode: versus! It's still a work in progress, so just the bare bones of the gamemode have been added.

Working on a 1v1 game mode!!! I just reused the same scenes from the main game to make this prototype :D The premise is that you're each given dishes that are randomized but you share the ingredients falling. Sometimes if you're given the same dish at the same time, you have to be quicker and chop the ingredients before the other person does. The goal is to complete more dishes than the other person.

Here's what I added:
Sauces!! There's now a chance to gain one of four different powerups when you collect a sauce.
The rest of the time was spent coding then next game mode: versus. Thanks for the idea @scattercat_123 :)
The sauce power ups work now!!! I added 4 different effects. They all have the same sprite right now but they'll be different types of sauces in the future! I'm planning on also giving each of the sauces some animation so that they get poured into the pot

I also made the sauces RNG based so they spawn pretty rarely. If you get one then you're lucky! :D

I took a break from coding the Shiba boss fight (because I’m a procrastinator) Instead I did some needed quality of life features:

A Shiba appears and tries to eat the food in your pot. Get rid of it before it contaminates the food!
The boss fight system still isn't done yet. There its a bit of lag after the combos are inputted for some reason but I can remedy that by adding some sort of animation in between maybe?
Should I add a boss bar?

This is the first of many power ups coming soon. I think in the future I'll have a pouring animation for when you collect it. I'm planning on making the powerups auto complete levels, kill all pests on screen, or double/triple your score in the future.

I added some big features!
Fixed a bug where you would loose life if you pressed Z when the dish complete screen popped up.
Added highscore/score on the game over screen
Started on making/adding sfx
I'll make the game over screen look nicer by my next demo post. Hopefully.

A new demo is out! I've added the tutorial section to my game! It still needs polishing because there are some bugs :(
I also did A LOT of bug fixing one being the game crashing if you press any button during the dialogue fade in/out animation.

FINALLLYYYY!!! I got the second part of the tutorial section finished. This part took me so long for some reason. The tutorial doesn't stop there though, but I'll work on it tomorrow I am so sleepy :(
First look into the tutorial screen! All there is to see right now is the new scrolling text and the UI box animation.
!!! WHEN YOU OPEN THE GAME PRESS ANY BUTTON ON THE TITLE SCREEN TO START I HAVENT MADE THE TITLE TEXT AND INSTRUCTIONS LOOK GOOD YET !!!
Did some more bug fixing. For example, the game would crash if you put in the combo for the meat ingredient in the second dish because the second dish doesn't need meat! :(
Also made progress on the tutorial!!

Created the title screen's background. Featuring me!!
I can finally post a short demo of my game! Its nothing crazy right now but I wanted to just get the simple controls down. I know its not much right now, nothings really complete but I wanted to ship something rather than nothing :D
Controls:
For the title screen: you use up and down arrow keys and Z to select play or quit
For the main game: Ingredients are falling from the sky, press the correct arrow key combos and to catch them in the pot. Then press Z to confirm the combo and X to reset.
I scrapped the old mechanic system after making a prototype because it wasnt very challenging or fun. Instead I am going for key input mechanics.
